THELIONCITYBOY is a Singapore son, endlessly proud to represent his city through his music. As a homegrown rapper, producer, and songwriter, he shines a spotlight on Singaporean stories from growing up in Ang Mo Kio to clubs on Boat Quay. THELIONCITYBOY earnestly shares his truth and perspective on the city, striving to embody his culture with the utmost pride. He is also known for his high-energy, crowd-shaking live performances at events such as the Singapore Grand Prix, NDP 2019, and opening up for KYLE during The Lightspeed World Tour.
As social distancing and video calls rapidly became the norm for 2020, THELIONCITYBOY unfailingly decided to put himself to the test and create something expressive within the novel boundaries that instinctively came along with an unprecedented global pandemic. Working completely online, the unwavering rapper set out to enlist the collaborative support from artists across the region to help him bring ‘Circus Breaker’ to life, a 6-track mixtape signifying a sense of community across borders and waters through an arguably divided time. The title itself is a cheeky nod to the ‘Circuit Breaker’ period in Singapore, which was implemented earlier this year as a safeguard to battle the growing COVID-19 pandemic and required citizens to curtail all social endeavors.
THELIONCITYBOY hopes to be a voice of inspiration to younger artists, and pushes the boundaries for not just himself, but for his entire community and country as well.
