--- José González ---

Kicking off his music career playing and performing with hardcore punk and rock bands in the 90s, José González then went on to form the indie folk-rock band Junip , which saw their first album release back in the year 2000.

Jose Gonzalez then went on to launch his solo career with the release his first solo album in the year 2003, a vastly different album when put in comparison with his previous work with other bands and groups. The album was recorded while he was studying for his doctorate in Sweden.

Based on the foundation of acoustic instruments, the album was titled “Veneer”, and was a sonic insight into his childhood - musically, that is. Bringing together a mix of genres, from bossa nova to classical and even post-punk, the record boasted his trademark guitar work and tender vocal melodies, and went on to seal his place in the scene and progressively made him known internationally.

Apart from his fantastic original material, his highly-rated song covers showcases his versatility and musical taste. Choice cuts range from "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division, "Born in the U.S.A." and "The Ghost of Tom Joad" by Bruce Springsteen, "Hand on Your Heart" by Kylie Minogue, "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat, "Teardrop" by Massive Attack and "Last Snowstorm of the Year" by Low.

Apart from musical influences, Jose draws inspiration from other parallels. He has been known to look to the works of biologist Richard Dawkins and philosopher Peter Singer for insight as well.
